Final event

15 months of research have come to an end, and as part of this, the 1+X team organised an exhibition of the whole process and the final event, which took place on 29 August in the open space of EKA. The evening started with an opening speech by 1+X, where we briefly introduced the work we have done over the last 15 months. We also thanked our mentors and partners for their contribution.

The exhibition consists of all the stages of the research, presented on architectural boards, in books and also in video.  The content of the architectural boards is printed on fabric, which is air-locked between wooden frames. They contain the textual part of the installation, graphic drawings of the project, and photographs of the construction of the installation. In addition to the architectural boards, the research reports were also attached to the wooden frames and can be read during the exhibition. A video of the construction of the installation (https://1plussx.com/ ) was projected on a blank larger canvas, demonstrating all the stages of construction. We also built a main panel similar to the installation, showing the structure, the straw and the outer layers of the façade. The panel is built in a simplified form, but gives a good idea of what an element of the 1+X pattern system would look like.

In addition to the exhibition, we also made a book of all the reports, which made 6 in total – studies on the pattern system and space modules, studies on the self-sustainable building system and smart module, project ideas, preliminary project, installation and straw as a future building material. These books cover the whole research process both textually and graphically. The hardcopy sets were gifted to partners and mentors. The reports can also be consulted on our website, to have the materials available to a wider audience and to be used by professionals in the field (https://1plussx.com/reports/ ).

Thank you to all the visitors who attended the final event of 1+X! The exhibition can be visited in the open area on the 4th floor at EKA and is open to everyone. See the closing event gallery here (https://1plussx.com/final-event/ ). Although the research phase of the “Development of the 1+X module system, the development of a technical module and the exploration of the use of straw as a material” has been completed, we still have a lot of ideas waiting for practical realisation. We will rest for a few months to come back with renewed energy. See you soon!
