1+X is a research project exploring pattern building system, developing technical module and looking for ways how to integrate straw into the construction sector.

1+X

In 1+X system, 1 stands for the technical module that provides water, electricity and heating systems in a building. The technical module also includes the toilet and kitchen. X marks an indeterminate number of room modules to create living space around the technical module.

STRAW

Straw is a rapidly renewable natural residual material with properties suitable for construction. Straw is acoustically insulating, heat-retaining and, when compressed, flame retardant. In addition, it creates a pleasant indoor climate because, unlike many building materials, it does not emit harmful particles.

PATTERN BUILDING SYSTEM

The pattern building system is based on a grid, with elements and modules corresponding to the grid dimensions. With standardised elements it is possible to create buildings of different size, appearance and function. Since the elements can be manufactured in the factory, construction costs are lower and construction on site is faster.

CONFIGURATOR

We have created a configurator to create an initial 2D and 3D draft of a building using the pattern building system elements and modules. It allows to make simple changes, such as shifting walls selecting the facade. The configurator simplifies the communication between architects, clients, engineers, and manufacturers.
