During the Garage48 makeathon competition we developed a project in 48 hours about modular family housing for orphans to offer them a SOS children village concept, which also provides them psychological support.
The modular system consists of one smart module and additional basic modules. The first challenge that we solved during the weekend was to build the modular system from straw panels, so it would have a small environmental impact. The second challenge was to add a possibility for our modular house to go off-grid, because in Ukraine they have a problem with electricity and water outage. The heating is supported with a gas pipeline or balloon. And also have an option to install solar panels to produce more sustainable electricity.

All the modules would be produced 100% in Ukraine, the straw panels housing is well tested there and they have a production for it. Our idea was that we offer a fast solution to install at least a five-module house in 72 hours with all the technical connections on an existing posted foundation. The modules are based on the size of a cargo truck and are lifted with a crane.
Our idea won the 6th makeathon in the Garage48 Future of Wood series! In the creation and development of this project, we laid the foundation for our research group.
